I really haven't done anything this past weekend that's super blog worthy but I did go ice skating the previous weekend.
On a strangely warm Sunday, I met my friends at an outdoor rink built behind Gwangju City Hall. It was crawling with families, couples and prepubescents. We immediately went to buy tickets. For 1000 won ($1) you get one hour of skating, ice skate rental, and a helmet. Everyone had to wear a helmet and gloves to get on the ice. There were teenagers working the entrance to the rink enforcing the safety rules. If you didn't have gloves (like my friend), you were able to purchase them for another 1000 won.
The rink was packed and everyone was falling left and right. It was actually kinda fun trying to zigzag through everyone. Since there were so many people on so little ice (and it was uncharacteristically warm), the ice was in really bad shape. There would be pile-ups on the ice and the teens working the rink would skate over to check for injuries and help people up.
I feel like I can't accurately express in writing how crowded it felt on that ice. It never really felt dangerous but lets just say I'm surprised no one had their fingers chopped off by fellow skaters. There were constantly kids sprawled out on the ice.
All in all, it was pretty fun. It had been awhile since the last time I went ice skating and it was good exercise. I was embarrassingly sore the next day.
This is how I skate. It looks graceful. Completely graceful.
Look how great that ice looks.
My friends being all cute and couple-y
I'm just so graceful.
Zigzagging between everyone.
Peace!
