I don't have internet in my apartment right now so I'm writing this from school. With the way my classes are set up, I switch classes with another teacher every 2 days. This means that today is another Introducing Myself class. I'm already prepared for lessons!
There are a lot of things I can write about my life to fill people in but I'll just stick with some fun facts right now until I have more time.
- Everyday of school I go to the vice-principal and Principal's room and greet them in the morning. A quick bow and hello is really great and respectful.
- When you give or take anything you either use 2 hands (on the object) or put the free hand on your forearm.
- When drinking you pour drinks for other people (always watch those glasses!) and if you're younger, you need to make sure that your glass is lower than the other persons when you cheers.
- I get stared at. All day, everyday. No one really tries to hide it. I stare back.
- You need to push a button to turn on the water heater before you shower. The same button also controls the heating (which is from the floors). For people who aren't used to this (ME), we tend to forget to push the button again to turn it off and come home to a nice heated room....when its 80 degrees outside. Whoops.
- My work day is from 8:30-5. I usually walk 30 minutes to get to my school.
- Korean coffee is super sweet and I hope I never adjust to the taste.
- Korean teachers (at least mine and a friends) do a walkabout after lunch to get a little exercise. The first time I did this we walked in circles around the gym. The second time we walked around the school. It's pretty interesting and a nice time to get to know the other teachers
- I have two ages in Korea; my international age is 23, while my Korean age is 24.
- Red lights are a suggestion. Also, if you're in the middle lane and realize you need to turn, just do it.
- Couple-wear is all the rage. While it's mainly young people, couples wear matching outfits. It's really fun to see.
There's so much more but I think I should get back to being productive. Miss everyone at home and I'll post a real post soon!
